PORTAPORTA Vessel - Stella

The Inspiration for the Porta Porta Vessel collection

Conceived during my meditations at the waterline of Ibiza, the collection reflects the visual collapse between the solid architecture of the shore and its fluid, distorted projection in the sea. This experience led to a deep reflection on how an object transmutates from one plane to another, preserving its form but altering its dimension and function. The collection challenge the 'prison of labels'—reminding us that when we tag an object or an organism with a name, we limit our experience of its living reality.

Function as Ritual

By rotating the object, the user breaks the tyranny of labels. Positioned vertically, it functions as a flower vessel. Turned on its side, it dissolves into a deep concavity—becoming a vide-poche, a fruit holder, or a sanctuary for sacred objects. Porta Porta is an interactive organism that proves that in design, as in alchemy, the Upper and Lower worlds are intimately connected.

The Technique: Opaque & Gelatinous Crystal Resin

Crafted entirely through advanced resin casting techniques, the objects play with visual density. The outer body features an opaque, foggy gradient representing the defined, ephemeral forms of our world, intersected at the center by a translucent, 'gelatinous' resin core. This textured, suspended block acts as the literal portal through which the piece transforms.

The Linguistic Duality

The title of the collection, Porta Porta, is a conceptual play on words rooted in the Italian language. Culturally, the prefix 'porta-' denotes a functional holder: portafiori (flower vase) and portafrutta (fruit holder). Yet, la porta literally translates to 'the door' or 'the gateway.' Through this linguistic synchronicity, the object speaks of its dual nature: it is a functional container of physical matter, and at the same time, an energetic threshold.
